Department of Shaylatantra in Pakwasa Hospital is being run since the establishment of the Institute. Since then, eminent surgeons had glorified the department with their contribution in clinical innovation and research in the field of surgery. Today, the department stands tall in the institute and national areas as well. This department has its own OPD, IPD, Minor OT, Major OT and Special Parasurgical procedure units. Students are getting wide exposure to the field of surgery with well-equipped OT. The teaching faculties of the department are expert in various Surgical and Parasurgical procedures.
The Department currently has 6 Ph.D Scholars and 12 PG Scholars. These students are ably performing all surgical, para-surgical and ward procedures under the skilled guidance of the departmental teaching faculties. General surgeries like Anorectal surgeries, Hernial repairs, Appendectomy, Hydrocele surgery, Circumcision, surgery for cysts, tumours, lipomas, Skin Grafting, orthopaedic surgeries, highly skilled surgeries like Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, Laparoscopic Appendectomy, Laparoscopic Hemiorthoplasty, Oncosurgeries, Mastectomy, Thyroidectomy etc. are done under sterile environment under proper Anesthesia. Under parasurgical procedures, Ksharsutra procedures, as well as speciality procedures like Agnikarma, Leech Therapy and other Raktamokshana procedures are routinely performed in the department. All the patients are given proper treatment under outdoor and indoor patient department.
UG, PG & Ph.D. Department of Shalyatantra stands as one of the important Pillar of college and hospital. There are sufficient number of 23 specimens, 6 models & 52 Charts available in the department. There are 162 books as well as thesis of PG students in Departmental Library. 32 PG Scholars admitted since 2017 out of which 20 PG Students have awarded M.S. Total 08 students are admitted for Ph.D. amongst them two Scholars have awarded P.h.D.

Departmental Activities

1. The department is organizing various camps and awareness programmes regarding Anorectal diseases and General Health check up.
2. The General Surgeon and Anesthetist are delivering guest lectures and training the BAMS students, PG and Ph.D Scholars.
3. The department is holding departmental seminars, clinical presentations, and group discussions for PG and PhD students regularly.
4. Teachers, Guides continuously supports PG Scholars while they actively assist in clinical and academic responsibilities.

Teaching Methodology

The Shalyatantra department employs a comprehensive and integrative teaching methodology to train PG scholars in both classical Ayurvedic surgical principles and modern surgical techniques.
The teaching approach focuses on building conceptual knowledge, clinical skills, and research aptitude, ensuring that scholars are well-prepared for both academic and practical surgical practice. Department has computer with printer with high speed Wifi Internet connectivity.
