DRAVYAGUNA VIGYAN
The Dravyaguna Vigyan Department specializes in identifying herbal drugs, covering both theoretical knowledge and practical applications, including their use in treating diseases. Our department boasts a library with 115 important texts, including samhitas and Nighantus such as Bhavprakash Nighantu, Raj Nighantu, and Kaiyadev Nighantu, as well as the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India (API).
We have a dedicated lab for morphological and microscopic studies of various herbal drugs, along with standardization methods like physicochemical and phytochemical analyses. In our central lab, students perform practicals including specific gravity and pH analysis of herbal substances, learning to differentiate genuine drugs from adulterants. Interactive sessions on Vruksh Ayurveda cover classical methods of cultivation, collection, and storage. Students also engage in Ekaldravyachikitsapracticals, gaining insights into the medicinal uses of different herbs.
Our museum features 252 dry specimens categorized by useful parts (e.g., Phala—Haritaki, Madanphala; Pushpa—Dhataki; Patra—Vasa; Nirgundi), alongside wet specimens and models. Educational charts include Agryadravyas, Mishrakagana, and various pharmacological systems such as the Central Nervous System, Digestive System, and Respiratory System.
The college’s herbal garden cultivates around 250 species and 1300 plants, complete with irrigation facilities. Each plant has a QR code for easy access to information, and there is a demonstration room for live presentations of different herbal components, including flowers, fruits, inflorescences, and leaf arrangements.
The department also organizes educational tours to various regions in India to explore diverse flora and conducts informative sessions for postgraduate students. A total of 52 PG students have successfully graduated from the program.
